TOPIC A: Militarization and Weaponization of Outer Space
TOPIC B: Preventing Non-State Actors from Acquiring Advanced Weapons
The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is a committee for delegates who are interested in debating geopolitics, national sovereignty, and military strategy. In this specific committee session, DISEC will discuss the militarization and weaponization of outer space, as well as measures to prevent non-state actors from acquiring advanced weapons. These two topics have been under discussion within DISEC for over two decades, and yet have faced challenges related to compromise, regulation and bureaucracy. Through debate, negotiation, and consensus-building, delegates will seek to advance policies that strengthen global security and reduce the risks posed by these emerging threats.

Dear Delegates,
My name is Cinya Lin, and I am honoured to serve as your Director for DISEC at CSMUN IV. I am currently a Grade 11 student at Havergal College, and this is my third year of Model UN. I have had the opportunity to compete across Canada and internationally in Spain, China, and the US. The topics I have chosen for DISEC have been incredibly interesting to research; however, they also have existed for decades, requiring you to think critically, negotiate effectively, and develop creative and realistic solutions.
As you prepare, I encourage you to go beyond the background guide and explore different perspectives on each topic. I am excited to see the debate, diplomacy, and innovative ideas you bring to DISEC, and I hope we can make this an engaging and memorable committee for everyone!
