Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)
TOPIC A: Global Arms Trade, Diversion, and Transparency
TOPIC B: Emerging Military Technologies & International Humanitarian Law
Established in 1945, the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, tasked with addressing the most pressing questions of international peace and security. DISEC can also make recommendations to the UN members or the Security Council. While DISEC cannot directly influence the Security Council’s decisions, the Security Council still considers DISEC’s suggestions.
DISECwill focus on two complex but vital areas: Emerging Military Technologies & International Humanitarian Law and the Global Arms Trade, Diversion, and Transparency. Delegates will solve issues ranging from developing AI military systems and regulations to ensuring transparency in arms transfers and preventing the diversion of weapons into illicit markets.
Note from the Director
Dear Delegates,
It is my absolute privilege to welcome you to DISEC at CSMUN 2025. My name is Thomas, and I am excited to serve as your Director for this committee. This is my 3rd year of doing Model UN. Throughout my own MUN experience, I have found that DISEC creates technical discussions on military and security issues while considering national policy. This committee will push you to adapt quickly and think strategically in ways you haven’t before. Situations are unpredictable by nature, but they also allow you to think critically and creatively, creating dynamic debate. It is essential to maintain our diplomatic composure and good spirits, especially when things take unexpected turns.
I am confident that the ideas you bring forward will be creating a thought-provoking committee session. I encourage each of you to immerse yourself into the role of your character, to take risks, and to try things you haven’t done before. I look forward to an engaging, fast-paced, and unforgettable committee with all of you.
Let’s make this year’s CSMUN great.
Sincerely,
Thomas Cai
Director, DISEC
